/ Sacred on location: a touring programme of events

The British Library is working in partnership with libraries, museums and heritage organisations to bring a programme of activities based around the theme of faith to a wider audience.

Jill Finney, Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications, said, "Sacred, which brought together the world's greatest collection of Jewish, Christian and Muslim holy books, has been the Library's most successful exhibition to date and we're delighted to be taking elements of the exhibition around the country." The schedule for the exhibition is as follows:

  • The Ideas Store, Tower Hamlets: April 2008
  • Burnley Central Library: 14th–28th June 2008
  • Sheffield Central Library: 15th September – 4th October 2008
  • Bristol Central Library: 7th–28th October 2008
  • Birmingham Central Library: 3rd–22nd November 2008
  • Manchester Central Library & John Ryland Library: 8th December 2008 – 14th January 2009
  • Leeds Central Library: March 2009

/ North West Libraries Interlending Partnership now in operation

Interlibrary Loan Support Services in the North West region of England have been provided by the Libraries North West ILL Business Unit since 2002. Since this time, the services of the Business Unit have been provided under contract by Lancashire County Library and Information Service to Libraries North West.

Following the dissolution of Libraries North West, Lancashire County Library and Information Service have been asked to provide a service to ensure that support for interlending continues within the region. The new service, the North West Libraries Interlending Partnership (NWLIP) was launched on 1st April 2008. The core services of the organisation remains the same as those previously provided by the LNW ILL Business Unit, with a varied programme of Inter Library Loan meetings, User Groups and forums. The service remains subscription based, and partner organisations include public, academic and specialist libraries in the North West of England.

/ New edition of the Guide to the Joint Fiction Reserves released

Conarls has prepared a brand new edition of the Guide to the Joint Fiction Reserves. This replaces the second edition, published in Spring 1999.

The Guide has been fully updated to reflect changes in interlibrary loan procedures and in the wider library world. The list of library contact details has also been brought up to date.

The Joint Fiction Reserves (JFRs) are an important national resource, helping to maintain readers' access to works of fiction long after they have gone out of print. They are maintained on a distributed basis by 156 libraries throughout the British Isles.

The Guide to the Joint Fiction Reserves is available for download as a PDF file and may also be viewed in HTML format. It can be found via the Publications page.
